Amber Ale
Amber Ale
Recipe from Bob at Bob's Homebrew Supply
Began preparations about 1:00 PM
Steeped 1.5 lbs Crystal malt at about 170° for about 30 minutes
Added to 2 gallons water, nearly boiling
Stirred in 7 lbs Light Malt Extract
Brought to boil, hot break at 4:00
Added 1 oz. Centennial hops
Added .5 oz. Centennial hops at 4:45
Turned off heat, added .5 oz. Centennial hops at 5:00
Cooled in boiling vessel in cold water bath until 5:35, then transferred to primary fermentation vessel
Pitched yeast at about 6:20, ~74°
OSG: 1.040 at 70°
Minor crisis when attempting to install airlock -- rubber stopper fits carboy, but not primary fermentation vessel
Used hole saw to enlarge opening to fit stopper
Everything set for primary fermentation by ~7:30
